A Letter to the Congregation from Staff Parish
We, on the Staff-Parish Relations Team, recognize that Covenant is going through a lot of change. Any change is met with mixed reactions, expectations, and hopes. Covenant is poised for the next chapter of service to Springfield in part, because of the vision and strong desire of Pastor Jim to see our building project succeed. Our next Senior Pastor, Mark Terry, brings the vision of holding fast to tradition while creating space and opportunities for connecting with those who have never known church. Currently, Pastor Mark conducts both a traditional service and an alternative service, and in his own words, “When we can live as Jesus did before us (engaged in acts of justice, mercy, and love) we can experience the eternal presence of God. People can find these moments by accident, or the faithful can join in community to support and love one another, so that these moments happen more and more often for ourselves and for our neighbors.” Our goal in the next few months is to complete the work Pastor Jim started and to get ready for our next chapter – when we can reopen our campus and our arms to the community. While we, as a church, absorb these changes together, we must have faith to continue to do God’s work of changing lives with Jesus. We will be scheduling events to honor Pastor Jim and to welcome the Terry Family.
Please let us know your thoughts, feelings and suggestions.
