Lectionary Bible Study Group
During most of the year, each Thursday at 1:00 p.m. the Lectionary Bible Study Group meets in the library across from the office in the sanctuary building, and engages in lively discussion of the Bible texts that will be used in worship ten days later. This helps participants to understand the context of the scripture passages, to be clearer listeners to sermons on these texts, and to deepen their understanding of scripture and what God may be saying to them through these texts.
Most of the participants in the Lectionary Bible Study are members of this congregation; sometimes a pastor from a nearby United Methodist church joins us. The shared insights and questions from members of the group make for lively conversation. The Bible texts always invite us to think about our lives in new and deeper ways; to have a conversation with God, just like the people so long ago had conversations with God.
Ladies’ Bible Study
Our friends at Hancock United Methodist Church invite Covenant members and friends to join their Ladies’ Bible study which meets every Tuesday morning from October through May. Led by Joyce Wolf, this non-denominational group welcomes women of all faiths.
The group will begin their new year of study on October 4, 2011. Come for coffee and fellowship at 9:30 a.m. and study at 10 a.m. Hancock United Methodist Church is located at 542 Wesley Road in Springfield (off Sproul Road).
The group is using a study called, “Genesis to Revelation,” and they are currently focusing on the New Testament book of Galatians. There is a bit of reading and work to do at home in preparation for the weekly discussion of how contemporary life is connected with the lesson. Those wishing to join the study group should call the Hancock Church office at 610-543-3551 so student books may be ordered.
