Souper Bowl of Caring Helps Loaves & Fishes

January 22, 2012

Your donations for the Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive will be received at Covenant Church on both Sunday, January 29 and Super Bowl Sunday, February 5.  In a recent email, Linda Freeman from Loaves & Fishes indicated that L&F "now have more than 1300 active families.”  Sadly, this is an all-time record high.  She went on to say that since deliveries have been cut from the surplus program of the Department of Agriculture, their needs have changed.  She specifically mentioned the need for "fruit juice (not fruit drinks with a lot of sugar in them) and any type of canned meat (tuna, beef or turkey stew, Spam, corned beef hash, canned chicken) and instant mashed potatoes.”

Your donated non-perishable foodstuffs can be left in Wesley Hall on either or both Sundays. Loaves & Fishes also makes good use of cash donations to purchase other items to fill nutritional needs based on what food groups are in low supply.  Feel free to donate by cash or check (payable to Covenant UMC with "Souper Bowl" on the memo line).  Look for the Souper Bowl soup pots as the place for you to put those donations.
