Souper Bowl of Caring - How You Can Help

December 26, 2011

On Sunday, February 5, 2012 millions of people all over the world will tune in to watch the Super Bowl football game. There will be parties with abundant food, friendship and fellowship. At the same time, there will be people right here in Delaware County worrying about staying warm and finding a meal. This year, with unemployment still high, local food pantries are experiencing unprecedented demand and are struggling to keep their shelves sufficiently stocked.

Please join Covenant youth and young people all over America as we demonstrate God’s love by teaming up to love our neighbors through the Souper Bowl of Caring effort.

Thank you in advance for your generosity at a time when it is needed the most.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. After Christmas bring empty boxes (printer/ copier paper boxes are best) to the church office or sit them outside the Senior High Sunday School room (next to the Music Room).
  2. Consider organizing a Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive where you live or work- our Senior High youth and Boxman (Dave Liscom) can supply you with boxes to take to your workplace or social group to fill with donations of canned food during the month of January leading up to Souper Bowl Sunday on 2/5/12.
  3. Mark your calendar to volunteer to drive and/or walk in the community-wide effort in Springfield to deliver informational flyers on Saturday, 1/28/12 and/or pick up food donations on Saturday, 2/4/12
  4. If you live in Springfield donate the use of your lawn for a Souper Bowl of Caring lawn sign from Sunday 1/29/12 until Saturday, 2/4/12. As always, we will put the lawn sign up for you and also take it down for you!! Sign-up sheets will be available in Wesley Hall beginning in January.
  5. Bring your own donations of cash or canned food to Church/Wesley Hall on either Sunday, 1/29/12 or Sunday, 2/5/12. Checks should be made out to Covenant UMC.

Thank you!

NOTE: The Souper Bowl of Caring ministry is national in scope, but addresses needs of the local community. For further information go to: www.souperbowl.org or www.tacklehunger.org.
